One of the smaller parks in Tanzania, Lake Manyara National Park is located at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Visitors are offered a change of scenery from the more savannah-dominated parks.
Shades of pink, white and blue can be seen as flocks of flamingos and pelicans frolic upon the waters of the lake. The park is home to a large diversity of over 400 species of birds. It is rare to see big cats such as leopard or lion here, but elephant and giraffe, as well as impala, gazelle and dik-dik, are more common.
