Dubbed with World Heritage Site status, Selous is one of Africa’s largest parks and is fringed by the Rufiji River. Wildlife is rife along the plains and lodges are located in well-situated positions.
If visitors opt to stay at a lodge inside the game reserve, it is not uncommon to hear the distinguishable footsteps of hippos and other nocturnal wildlife as they roam the grounds at night. Unlike the national parks, this conservation area allows walking — the ideal way to observe the 2,000 indigenous plant species — as well as boating safaris, and many camps offer overnight fly-camping.
